GarageTown will be celebrating this milestone with a Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Celebration on April 30, from 5 to 7 pm.

In line with GarageTown's condo declarations, ownership control of the facility occurs 60 days after 75% of the units (56 of the 71) are sold. The facility will have reached this target with its ‘recession resilient’ product offering in only 16 months, and expects to have the 15 remaining units sold by mid year.

“We’re all about community,” says Mike Ard of GarageTown. “Whether it’s our close-knit group of unit owners or the Highlands Ranch population in general, GarageTown has been embraced by this community since we opened our first overhead door in late December of 2007. Most of the current GarageTown owners are residents of Highlands Ranch,” continues Ard, “so it seems only fitting that we mark ownership transfer of the facility to these folks with an official Chamber ribbon cutting and a little fun.”

In addition to a safe, enclosed ownership storage facility to keep and care for your cars, RVs, boats, or to run your business, GarageTown provides opportunity for many others in the area as well. “Our owners seem to always be looking for things like floor coatings, pallet shelving, cabinets, and similar goods and services, says Ard. “Last month, we signed up a HR Chamber Member to service our fire extinguisher equipment, and, recently, we also started offering area realtors up to a 3% co-op for helping us sell the remaining units. Accordingly, the Ribbon Cutting should be the perfect time for everyone to come down and see what GarageTown is all about. Hope to see you there.”

50 States Approved!

Today we are officially approved to franchise in all 50 States.

Letter to the editor.

A recent letter to the editor. This may or may not be published, but it's worth reading.

Take a time out from the economy, go to your garage.

With all the doom and gloom stories we’ve been hearing from the media, it’s hard not to think of anything else right now. I’ve been very fortunate to work for a company called GarageTown USA. We build, market and sell private storage condominiums (think an extra huge garage for you to use for whatever you want) as well as sell franchises for others to build under our proven model. Our office is full of smiles because we have the perfect escape from the overwhelming media coverage of our economic times, and so do you, it’s your garage.
When you go into the garage to start a project, to clean, or to just get out some trinkets from the “glory days” you aren’t thinking about the DOW or your 401k. Each time I go to our personal GarageTown unit I see our grandparents RV and think about how much fun we’ve had with them over the years, our seasonal junk, mostly Christmas lights and decorations, and the beginning of new projects that brings me hope for things to come. I really hope that everyone will take some time to go rummage through their old stuff, or do the opposite and get started on something that makes them smile. If I go to one more event and the first thing out of someone’s mouth is related to the economy, I’m going to throw them in my garage.

Dallas/Fort Worth Custom & Rod Show is Hot!

The only thing hotter than GarageTown USA Storage condos coming to the DFW area were the hotrods at the show, they we’re smoking! LA Convention Ctr

GarageTown USA has presence at the LA Boat show.

Even though the display area was scaled back this year it did not slow excitement and interest in Storage Condominiums. Attendees had numerous questions for our GarageTown representatives, mostly consisting of, "Where are you in California?".

With the Lake Havasu recreation area close by, boaters see the growing need for safe, secure storage out of the elements. After all, if your going to put $800,000 into an Elimator speedboat, or invest your hard earned cash into a family runabout, shouldn’t it have a place to call home?

GarageTown USA is moving forward with its plans to expand via franchising in many western states including California. One of the most frequent asked questions this year was, "How are people paying for their GarageTown unit with banks being so tight on lending right now?" I wanted to address this as it has come up even when the banks were being a slight bit more lenient.

The majority of our buyers purchase with cash. The typical buyer might consider financing as an option to reduce their overhead but we have smart owners and they want the immediate as well as long term benefits of buying in cash. We still have people financing right now to purchase their units but we have seen a slowing in home equity loans as a means of obtaining funds.

Overall it's been our priveledge to provide a product that is unique to the public. People need and want what we have, it's just a matter of making sure it's the right fit for them.

Have a wonderful day, we have several more large shows that we will be at, and don't miss our presentation at the 2009 Inside Self Storage World Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Venitian on the future of Condo Storage this January 26th-29th.

Holiday Madness

GarageTown USA Franchise Servicess LLC corporate headquarters is based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We have some of the world most beautiful scenery, brilliant landscape, and gorgeous views. With this comes the extremely seasonal weather. It's a perfect 80-90 degrees in the middle of summer. Averages 50-60 degrees spring and fall. And right now it feels like it's hanging around 0 all winter long.

We are fortunate to have our heated GarageTown units to escape to if we want to work on something that wouldn't be possible to do at home. They're a place for us to escape the dark winter months and tinker on our boats, bikes, beers, whatever, while we think of summertime coming. The funny part about this is that during the summer I'm often found at GarageTown looking at my ski gear and peoples snow mobiles wishing that the seasons would change.

Every year, through every season we are spoiled by our relatively low cost of living, our community feel, and the beauty of the land, what more could we want. Unfortunately for many of us tomorrow can never come soon enough, and for others it always comes too soon. I'm thankful that we have everything we've been blessed to obtain, but for now I'm just thankful to be.

Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and I'll talk to you after New Years.

-Cameron

Increased Visibility and Branding

We just returned from the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Las Vegas from this past week. From the show we realized several things. First that the economy is down. While people are still there spending money on cars the venue and the economy definately had an impact on sales prices. Secondly we noticed that there weren't any other Storage Condominium vendors. We checked online and noticed that nobody else is hardly making an effort, it's as if they aren't doing any more projects or don't think they can sell in this economy. Finally we noticed that we have increased our visibility and branding tremendously since last year.

When we go to a show we typically expect 100% to be explaining the concept to people who stop in and think we're selling custom garage flooring or lifts or something then we introduce the concept and they either get it or leave thinking we're crazy. This show was a bit different. We had person after person stopping by the booth to say to their buddies, "This is that GarageTown idea I was telling you about. You know where you own the garage instead of renting space." it's great! We saved time, gave them a bit more information, and they will hopefully buy a unit. No other company out there has this sort of reaction.

This has become one of our most valuable parts of the franchise model. Recognition. We've been in almost every major news publication and we're moving towards creating the next piece of the real estate market that people can invest in.

Overall it was a great show. Despite people still having a tight grip on their wallets during slow economic times, we have captured the minds and investment interests of quality people from all over the United States and Canada. I look forward to you writing me with any questions or comments.

-Cameron

Time Management

Garage Condominiums are still such a new concept that a large portion of my time here at the office is spent responding to people web inquiries on what they are and the details of ownership. I've learned to manage my time better by simply sending them to our website at www.garagetown.com so they can answer their own question. But from all this helping myself out and free up my time at the office so I can work more efficiently I realized how owning my own GarageTown Condo has helped me manage my time better outside of work.

In Coeur d'Alene Idaho we have great seasonal weather. By great I mean extreme, and it changes fast. We had what seemed like a 6 month winter this year followed immediately with hot summer days, and right now summertime is winding down and it's just about to start being cold (as if 40 degrees in the am isn't already cold). With these seasons I have 1 large daunting task. Moving stuff. Boats being the main concern for our family. We take them out of the water only 1 time each year. To put them away. The normal process would go; Take boat out, clean, take to shop, winterize, rearrange garage/rental storage/yard (wherever) put boat away, cover, seal for winter. But with GarageTown it's a bit easier on the time; take boat out, clean, store. Because our unit is heated we simply put it away and keep it above freezing. Because it's a clean dry environment we don't have to get it wrapped to prevent the elements from harming our beloved summertime toy.

The list goes on and on for how GarageTown saves my time. I moved back up here from AZ and had all of our household belongings put away, no need to go find a place to store it, no need to drive away from my daily routine, everything was right where I already go. Every change of season we have to get out new tools for housework, mainly for either raking and mowing or for plowing and shoveling. Keeping our house organized allows us to use our time more effectively and time is the only thing we don't get back.

New Updates

We have had some major breakthroughs with Franchising. The homes were all great again as usual and I definately appreciated looking around more this year than years prior as I'm in the process of building my first new home. The applications of new technology and classic architecture was very impressive. The uses of paint and texture on the surfaces gave me reason to get excited for doing new things at my new house. Furniture and TV's caught my eyes at every house. But there was one thing that I was never impressed with...the garage.

I'm a garage guy. The house my wife and I are building isn't very big, not too flashy, pretty clean, but the garage is going to be awesome. This is something I don't think modern builders put much effort into this year. Even the 6400 square foot beauty with the detached shop wasn't that appealing to me. The garage is an American institution. We build, create, modify, store, and essentially live in the garage. This is why I'm putting extra room and detail into my garage at my new house. I have a GarageTown unit too where I store all my seasonal items, heavy equipment and things that aren't currently in use. Without it I wouldn't be able to have the garage I've always wanted. It would be filled with lawn care items, christmas ornaments and toys.

With more and more builders building homes with less and less garage space and more Americans needing their space to escape and do what they want to GarageTown is continuing to grow in popularity and necessity.

Summer Fun leading to Winter Storage?

Summer is in full swing here in Coeur d'Alene. I was out by the Spokane River this morning and there were several people out waterskiing, wakeboarding, fishing, or just kayaking. While I don't want to cast doom on the wonderful summer we've had I can't help but wonder where everyone is storing their beautiful boats, RV's, Kayaks, Jetskis...once this amazing weather dies off.

I know a handful of people keep their prized posessions at their GarageTown unit, but where does everyone else keep them? A large amount of people keep them in their garage. This presents several problems. In the winter when their boat is kept inside where do they keep their truck that was in the garage all summer? Keeping Jetski's or Kayaks in the garage is equally as troublesome. Not only do they take up the other vehicles space, but they don't fill it up. Being a "down home boy" I always try to fit as much stuff as I can into the space provided, so having to bump my truck or car out of the garage some the space can be filled half way with a couple summer toys just seems wrong to me.

A large amount of the remainder of people keep their passions at a rental storage facility. I don't have to go on too much about how I don't like this idea. While it is a secure site it isn't a sound investment. Money spent on rent is money never re-captured, and that's just crazy.

GarageTown not only makes sense financially and physically, but also emotionally. What are all these people going to do in the winter with their friends that come hang out with them all Summer long? Put them in their garage? Rent them a storage space? No. They will see them at GarageTown.

Closing Time!

No GarageTown USA is not closing. Units are closing. The sun came out and buyers started flocking back to their RV's, Cars, Boats and toys creating a buzz in the GarageTown Community.

This is the time of year where you would most likely see a couple people out at their unit playing with one of their toys, or just working on whatever their unit stores. You also will see people hanging out at the clubhouse after a long day of playing, working, socializing, or all the above.

I'm headed out after work to go pick up a few things from our unit and I'm sure I'll see a few familiar faces getting ready to head out or coming back in. Not Material Goods, Material Greats!

Recently with my work on the internet making sure I'm tracking all the info I can find on GarageTown I've run into some very interesting discussions and posts. The majority of discussions are singing the praises of GarageTown and how we've provided high end private storage condominiums for the "stuff" people have acquired, and some are more personal interest stories about the people that own a GarageTown unit. But the really exciting ones are the people who don't understand the concept of owning your own space, who can't see why someone would need a home away from home for their stuff, who just don't get it.

This is one of the reasons why I love my job. I get to take a Grumpy Sourpuss and simply present the entire idea to them and watch as even the most "anti-material possesion" person warms up and eventually says, "Yeah, I can see how that's a good idea and it helps people". It's like watching a catapillar turn into a butterfly, and it takes about as much time.

When someone says something negative about GarageTown it isn't necessarily against us as a company, but against the idea that we helped create. The idea that you should be able to OWN your storage. Once people who don't approve of having a place for your stuff frees up space at your home, creates another environment to entertain, helps you network with other people, they start to see the light. The part that usually wins others over is when you explain that it's very similar to a storage unit, but it's huge. A storage rental facility is out to just collect your money forever without any intent of giving you anything back besides access, with GarageTown our intent is to have you acquire the property so that you can do whatever you want and gain the real estate appreciation, try getting that from a storage rental! Not that I want to slam the storage rental business, we are almost in 2 different markets, but with GarageTown you receive a similar product with very different benefits.

The reading of all these posts again confirmed that GarageTown USA is not for Material Goods, it's for Material Greats.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://garagetown.blogspot.com/2008/05/garagetown-usa-not-material-goods.html' title='GarageTown USA. Unfortunately we are still receiving snow here in Idaho...and it's almost May! Besides the weather it's full speed ahead for the upcoming shows and events.

We recently had an on site event dubbed, "Sick o' de Winter" (named for obvious reasons) where we nonchalantly asked some owners if they would bring out a couple cars, we'll bring the food and drink, and just have a good time. The turnout was great. Over 100 people without doing anything but just making some fliers and dropping them off with people, no radio, no e-mail blasts, just people! It really showed how the GarageTown Community enjoys spending time with each other and bringing new people into it at all times.

Back to the shows. Tonight we have an all night event with all the local businesses and then we will have event after event on site during the summer months as people get out of their houses. The point of all this is interaction with people. While we may have gotten our name out to a large percent of the community most people don't understand until they talk to someone who either owns one, or they speak to us. Even after they talk to us it's not until they see one that it can truly be understood. So come see us at one of our events, stop by, or just give use a call.

For more info you can always check the website at www.garagetown.com

Busy again!

While the rest of the country has had Spring sprung upon them here in Coeur d'Alene we were blessed with another blanketing of snow on April 1st. I thought it was a joke when I woke up, but then was smacked in the face when I went outside to work and had to slip and slide down the road.

2 Days later the snow has melted and the buyers have returned. 3 units in 1 day! We were excited but not as excited as the new owners. With their new storage condominium the sites were busy with project cars, toys and just stuff being brought into GarageTown.

Seeing people so happy with their purchase is why we here at GarageTown have such a great job. We get to deliver a unique product to people who benefit from having the space they need to live the life they want.

Now that Spring is here and Summer is just around the corner we expect GarageTown to be busier than ever and continue to spread the joy of being in the GarageTown community across the country.

Been a while, back in town. We've been on site to help handle the traffic daily.

On that note traffic at GarageTown in Coeur d'Alene and Hayden, Idaho has been great. With the snow finally melting up here and people getting the itch to bring out their nice cars, RV's and motorcycles we have noticed a huge increase in traffic. Not only has traffic increased from our owners who are coming in more to play and work, but from people who are realizing that there aren't many unit still available and that are in need of space.

So if you are starting to get the Summer bug and need to do some spring cleaning swing by a GarageTown and see how we can help out.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://garagetown.blogspot.com/2008/03/been-while-back-in-town-garagetown.html' title='Been a while, back in town. I'm working on search engine optimization which is nerd for "really boring formatting and linking of your website to relevant sites". We are very proud to have an original website at GarageTown, but always are up for more visibility across the nation.

Also I will be working on site at the Coeur d'Alene II location in Idaho. This is next to the original so it's fairly busy. The community feel at this location is fantastic. There are 4-5 owners that are there everyday. Fresh coffee will be ready for any walk in visitors and I'll be there as the acting sales rep.

It's surprising how much foot traffic we still receive even though we are nearly sold out at that site. We will get 2-3 interested people stopping by daily. Often they are people who just know someone who owns one and have heard them bragging about them, but there are the people who are just curious, or who need one for themselves, and those spying the property to attempt to build one of their own.

I'll try to post again this week, but I might be sick of staring at the computer screen.

Have a great day.

-Cameron

My GarageTown Use

I have the fortunate opportunity to not only be an employee of GarageTown USA, but I also have a unit at the original. Well technically I don't have one, my wife does, I just use it. I wanted to post my typical use of my GarageTown.

My unit is generally used for storage. Inside are nearly all my posessions from our move from Arizona. Being that it was a quick move and everything is unorganized in boxes I've chosen to not unpack until we have a perfect place. There is also room for Grandma and Grandpa's RV, suprising with all the junk I have, but there really is enough room for all that stuff and a large motorhome. Squeezed in on the side is what I really enjoy, my little brother in law's hot rod truck. This is an older Chevy pickup with a really really nice engine and Nitrous Oxide system.

Not to get to into what is inside my unit, but it really helps show the versatility of having some space. Most of my time is spent sorting through my boxes trying to find something, but everytime I go I have to play with something. I'm either starting up the truck just to hear the engine, or wandering through the motorhome to make sure everything is clean.

I visit my unit about 1-2 times each week. I think this is pretty average for the owners as I see a couple different owners there each time I'm there. Michael Hunt is probably the person I see the most as he's there with his kids at his batting cage or working on something.

Next post I'll update with someone more interestings uses and frequencies, hopefully mine has given you some insite to how a "normal" person uses their unit. I wouldn't want to think about how much I'd be spending on rent for my stuff right now, thank goodness for GarageTown.

Competitors vs Competition

This year GarageTown at Barrett Jackson auto auction in Scottsdale, AZ we had a fantastic show. Every time we go there we fall more in love with our company. People come out of nowhere and seek us out just to talk about what a great idea this is, and how much they need one. Please keep in mind this is the perfect demographic for GarageTown, successful professionals who, for the most part, have built their wealth from the ground up, plus it doesn't hurt that they collect automobiles.

There were several trends that I noticed while representing GarageTown at the show. Some as insignifigant as clothing trends (polo shirts aren't so hip anymore), the more profound like the return of the muscle car from American auto makers, to the relevant trends for GarageTown.

The trend that was most prevelent was the immergence of competitors. I say competitors not competition because the majority of companies building condo-storage are not competition. Since GarageTown USA has been building and selling for an extended amount of time, in different states, under different economic times, we have done all the hard work and know how to put a GarageTown anywhere from start to finish. Competitor facilities are running into all the problems we did, but we have dealt with them, and have moved forward.

It's a great time to invest in condo-storage, but it's also a great time to do it properly. GarageTown USA has spent the time, money, and energy to make this a great product that people will appreciate, enjoy, and be wanting to invest in for years to come.

Storage Condominium? What's that? GarageTown Who?

As the real estate market is being, and has been, repeatedly turned upside down it's being forced to evolve. With this evolution comes the old theory of "Survival of the Fittest". The weaker real estate agents who were just along for the ride to collect some money here and there have been forced to go back to working a normal 9 to 5. No more are the days where you just list and sell without working. Enter Evolution.

New products and new Sales tactics, more like old fashioned sales tactics, are quickly becoming a necessity to stay afloat as a realtor. As far as the sales tactics and practices go we are seeing a shift back to "the good 'ol days" where you developed a relationship with your realtor and actually found the right house as opposed to simply having a "transaction coordinator" who aided with getting your hard earned 3-6% of the purchase price. This change as well as the large amount of availability in housing has created more educated buyers and a market that is able to meet your needs.

So what about the new Products? This is where storage Condo's enter the market. A storage condominium is a piece of property that is for stuff. GarageTown USA, www.garagetown.com, is the leader in this with numerous sites in 6 states and rapidly expanding. How does this affect the market though? It does several things: First it brings in a new real estate product that is stand alone. It's not residential, it's commercial, but it's used for residential purposes. A person who is looking for a new investment in property can pick one up and lease it out. A car collector that is tired of losing rent on storage now gets his money to build equity. Second it gives you options. Hang with me here. Instead of looking at this house with a 4 car garage, or having to settle for a different one with a 2 car garage you can get that house and the GarageTown unit. This means that people don't have to settle. They can have what they want. Third it eliminates negativity towards HOA restrictions. How many people in places like Arizona have a nice boat, RV, or Truck, but aren't allowed to park them in their driveway or beside their house because the HOA doesn't allow it. This gives the buyer the ability to buy without feeling bad about paying monthly rent for storage, or keeping their prized possesions at a friends place.

Storage Condo's are getting more and more recognition. The NY Times just did an article featuring GarageTown(http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/01/travel/escapes/01condos.html?_r=1&oref=slogin) and they are here to stay.

GarageTown is changing the real estate market. A community of buyers is growing and pulling more and more people into it. Make sure you don't miss out on the opportunity to buy/sell a GarageTown in your neighborhood. For more info on GarageTown you can visit their website at www.garagetown.com or you can write e-mail directly to Carri Berglund their national sales director at carri@garagetown.com .

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://garagetown.blogspot.com/2008/02/storage-condominium-whats-that.html' title='Storage Condominium?
